Olde Town Conyers downtown preserves the past, while new subdivisions bring in residents. The 160-acre Big Haynes Creek Nature Center connects to other trails inside the Georgia International Horse Park and eventually the city will connect to the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve via another pedestrian trail. In the 1960s, the construction of I-20 through Rockdale County caused an industrial and commercial boom for this former railroad town. In 1996, when the Olympics came to Atlanta, Conyers hosted the equestrian, mountain biking and modern pentathlon events in the newly built Georgia International Horse Park. Residents and merchants are looking forward to a widened Ga. 138 bridge over I-20, along with other streetscape improvements, by mid-2007.
