The Collier Hills area, anchored by Piedmont Hospital at Collier and Peachtree roads, turned 100 in 2005. The area is an active one, with Peachtree Street and Midtown/Buckhead on one side and Northside Drive, Atlantic Station and the new Wal-Mart on the other. There's plenty of activity in all directions. Housing includes modest one-story homes built around World War II, spacious Peachtree Battle houses and new high-rise condos. But the area, which was the site of the Battle of Peachtree Creek during the Civil War, also offers urban oases: 14.5-acre Tanyard Creek Park, as well as the seven acres of urban forest added recently to Ardmore Park, thanks to a public/private partnership and the work of many residents and nonprofit groups.
