Atlantic Station is a 138-acre development at the intersection of I-75 and I-85 in Midtown. The site of the former Atlantic Steel Mill includes 15 million square feet of retail, office and hotel space, 11 acres of public parks and housing. The city within a city, which has its own ZIP Code, hosts many special events including the Taste of Atlanta and the AVP Open, a professional beach volleyball tournament. About 5,000 residential properties are located in the complex: from luxury lofts to student housing, with prices ranging from the high $100,000s to more than $1 million. Some 600 apartments and lofts are adjacent to the retail district and 300 loft apartments are built directly above the retail shops. More than 1,100 condominiums encircle a two-acre lake with green space and an amphitheatre for small outdoor concerts. Town homes and single-family homes are also included in the neighborhood. A student housing community accommodates nearly 300 residents. Atlanta Public Schools serve the development. At least 95 per cent of students met or exceeded state standards at the schools in the area, and Grady High is considered one of the premier high schools in the state. The Arts Center Marta Station is nearby and the complex provides shuttle buses to many offices and attractions in the area.
