Dunwoody in DeKalb County

Dunwoody today is a rapidly urbanizing close-in section of unincorporated DeKalb County, served by several nearby MARTA rapid transit stops, while retaining its strong residential base. The land in the vicinity of Chamblee-Dunwoody Road and Spalding Drive was farmed by Maj. Charles Dunwoody after the Civil War. His vision of a community grew, and Dunwoody Village and the post office were established in the late 1860s. The first subdivision of townhouses was built in 1971. That year, Perimeter Mall opened, bringing business and shops, as well as hotels and office parks, within a few minutes of the busy neighborhood.
